The Attorney General is the chief legal officer for the state of North Dakota, and the Attorney General's Office serves more than 70 state agencies, boards, and commissions, as well as the University System. The Attorney General is dedicated to deliver the highest quality professional and ethical legal services to state officials, agencies, and people of the state of North Dakota. The Natural Resources and Native American Affairs Division, a Division in the Attorney General's Office, provides legal services to state agencies that are involved with and regulate the State's natural resources. These agencies include the Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Water Resources, Industrial Commission (including the State Mill and Elevator, Department of Mineral Resources, Pipeline Authority and others), Parks and Recreation Department, Game and Fish Department, several commodity boards, and others. To further these important goals, the Attorney General's Office is seeking a qualified attorney to join the Natural Resources and Native American Affairs Division and serve as General Counsel for multiple state agencies involved in the regulation of the state's natural resources. An attorney hired for the position will represent the agencies in all legal matters and collaborate with other attorneys in the division to advise other agencies. Typical duties for this position will include but not be limited to:Manage the agencies' legal operations;Develop strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders;Work with clients to address legal questions and issues, provide guidance, and issue legal advice and opinions;Respond to legal correspondence;Conduct legal research, study, interpret and apply laws, regulations, and court decisions;Monitor, draft, and review legislation, and provide legislative testimony; Evaluate the merits of litigation filed against the agencies, work with staff to defend against litigation, assist with the preparation of litigation documents;Represent the agencies in administrative and civil proceedings if necessary;Manage outside counsel; Division staff are given the opportunity to participate in local, regional, and national training courses for topics such as general counsel training, advanced litigation skills such as deposition training, appellate advocacy, e-discovery, and negotiations.In addition to the monthly salary based upon experience and demonstrated competency, this position includes fully paid health insurance for employee and family, the option to participate in employee-paid dental and vision for employee and family, participation in the state NDPERS defined benefit retirement plans, as well as the option to participate in the 457 deferred compensation plan, and the option to contribute to a medical spending account. Minimum Qualifications

Licensed to practice law in North Dakota, or the expectation of imminent admission to the North Dakota bar.A minimum of 1 year of experience practicing general civil litigation or other comparable litigation-related experience, is preferred. In this area, you will handle all project activities between the department and consultants for urban regional/urban roads and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) projects. This will include monitoring compliance with milestone dates, ensuring timely submission of necessary documents, conducting technical project reviews, and coordinating with local public agencies and divisions/districts. You will also review environmental documents and plans, attend relevant meetings to provide technical assistance, prepare cost estimates, determine funding splits, create proposals in PACER, and manage complex project agreements with multiple entities.

Minimum Qualifications

We are currently looking for a temporary part-time Global Engagement Program Assistant for project-based work in attracting foreign direct investment to North Dakota and conducting economic, capital and/or workforce development missions to foreign countries. As a Global Engagement Program Assistant, you will assist in the development of the ND Department of Commerce Global Engagement Office, which will include the creation and/or enhancement of marketing materials, analyzing and researching foreign businesses and countries on prospective investments, and assisting with relationship management of existing foreign businesses, consul offices and embassies. You will also assist with legislative education to include writing draft legislative testimony and conducting interviews and writing stories. You will assist agency team members in making logistical arrangements for foreign travel, assist in planning and executing mission trips to foreign countries, and attend conferences and pre-mission trips to foreign countries to assist with the execution of the missions. You will also create final reports of the mission trips and conduct post-mission follow-up as required.To succeed in this position, you need to be highly collaborative with strong interpersonal skills, can adapt and change approach or methods to fit the situation and be self-directed with the ability to complete projects with limited supervision, take ownership and ask for help when needed, and be comfortable working under tight deadlines.To be considered for this role, you must be able to travel and be willing to travel inside and outside of the United States. You also must have or be able to obtain a US Passport. You must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED and three years of work experience performing a variety of complex office support OR an associate degree in a business-related field and two years of work experience. Preferred candidates should have work or academic experience with the following: highly effective oral and written communication; data analysis and problem-solving; ability to establish databases to maintain and track data; presentation development and delivery skills; research and analysis using a variety of methods; and be proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).Location: Commerce has a central office location in Bismarck and this position will be working remotely from any North Dakota location. Travel is required.About the position:This is a part-time temporary position, with no specified end date.Hourly Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.Work Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours per week.
