Career Description




Work with the Geological Survey's public fossil dig program to discover, document and collect fossils found in North Dakota.Return them to the North Dakota State Fossil Collection for curation and use in public exhibits and research.

Duties and Tasks

Supervise participants on the public Fossil Digs to ensure proper techniques are used to recover fossils.Answer questions from participants about geology and paleontology in North Dakota.Ensure consumable supplies are restocked each field day.

Minimum Qualifications

Geology or Biology (Both are typical fields for students studying Paleontology)As a reminder, the eligibility requirements for Internship Funding are as follows:Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical program in the United States.Must be a current full-time student, as defined by that school, in the semester or quarter in which they apply for an internship.Must be working in an internship that aligns with the student's academic major or career goals.Must be at least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship (or must have completed the first year of a conventional/technical program by the beginning of the internship).Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.Must have a submitted unofficial transcript to verify they meet the eligibility requirements.
