Assist the preliminary field survey crew with data collection. Some of the duties include; GPS operation, recover recorded monuments and appropriate documentation needed for boundary surveys, set aerial panels, utility surveys, topographic surveys, and alignment surveys. This position not only provides real life job experience, but also provides learning how the NDDOT field surveys are conducted. The Preliminary survey crew leaves Bismarck on Monday and returns on Thursday.

Geotechnical Drill Crew Intern - This internship will provide quality experience with highway materials testing, geotechnical exploration, and field data collection. This internship will provide field experience in geotechnical engineering and exploration. This is a field position that will require out of town travel and overnights. Safety and personal protective equipment along with travel expense reimbursement will be covered by the agency. CADD Editing duties consist of producing standardized CADD layouts of preliminary survey data, gathering relevant data and resources from various sources including field technicians, consultants, and utility companies, and creating digital terrain models. The role requires adherence to NDDOT CADD standards in plan production, performing quality control checks for accuracy and consistency and maintaining daily documentation files on production events.LiDAR and Photogrammetric responsibilities include developing and utilizing techniques to process LiDAR point cloud data, creating, and implementing classification techniques for multiple sources of LiDAR, and generating preliminary survey topography graphics and surface generation. The role includes collecting preliminary survey data from aerial imagery using a stereo soft-copy workstation and performing various photogrammetric operations such as stereo compilation, image creation and manipulation, analytical triangulation, and ortho-rectified mosaic production. Stereo vision acuity is a requirement for this responsibility. UAS operations involve implementing mission planning to ensure project scope is met efficiently, utilizing UAVs and sensor payloads to collect field data for preliminary surveys, and processing GNSS and IMU data to create accurate trajectories. The role also includes post-processing raw data to produce quality LiDAR point cloud files, as well as creating and maintaining related documents and manuals.This role involves up to date training to develop and refine accuracy and efficiency while maintaining documentation that outlines the procedures for creating preliminary survey production files for NDDOT projects.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for an Engineering Technician IV, you must have at least six years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. To be considered for an Engineering Technician III, you must have at least four years of work experience related to the engineering technician duties listed. College-level course work and/or degree in an engineering or related field reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. As the Highway Materials Coordinator in our Dickinson District, you will be responsible for monitoring the quality of materials used in projects. Federal dollars are tied to the quality, testing and monitoring of the materials used in the State, County and City projects. This position oversees the use of materials in all projects to prevent the loss of federal funds. Supervise District Lab Operations: Ensure district staff is appropriately certified for materials sampling and testing. Conduct materials sampling and testing training for district staff. Monitor testing frequency on state and local projects through frequent conversations with field testing personnel, inspectors, and engineers along with project visits. Complete district IA sampling and testing according to NDDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM procedures. Acquire samples for Materials & Research when required. Coordinate sampling with assistant district engineer. Observe field testers sampling and testing. Interpret Specifications, Field Sampling and Testing Manual, and plans to answer materials sampling and testing questions. Purchase and maintain lab equipment. Coordinate with Materials and Research when necessary. Maintain district lab in a clean, neat, and professional manner. Update and review testing requirements in district's Share Point.Permitting: Administer custodian contracts for rest area and district office. Manage district Adopt a Highway program. Serve as a backup for issuing district permits such as approach, temporary water lines, and utilities. Perform site inspections as necessary. Discuss performance issues with permittees or vendors.Records:Review materials files for project finals. Review Materials Dop Box to make sure all tests are completed and entered for each project. As a Transportation Engineer Manager Team Lead you will Provide engineering oversite on all construction projects in the Bismarck District and keep the ADE & DE informed of progress on all projects. Oversee all plan development within the District.Primary Duties Include:Employee Supervision: Supervise Engineering Technicians, Transportation Engineers, Project Managers, and maintenance employees or temporary employees performing inspection duties, materials testing and surveying to ensure construction projects completed in accordance with contract requirements. Schedule work assignments that offer diversity of work to provide and maintain interest and enthusiasm for work environment. Conduct safety meetings to ensure awareness of working conditions such as working within heavy traffic areas and around heavy motorized construction equipment and taking proper precautions to maintain a safe working environment. Provide proper training for personnel on departmental policies, inspection and materials testing procedures. Supervise employees who are preparing and developing district plans and concept reports. Complete Employee Appraisals. Document employee performance throughout the year meeting with the employee a minimum of once every three months. Review the positive and negative aspects of an employee's performance and their progress towards meeting their goals. Schedule work activities for construction staff during winter months.Bismarck / Mandan City Contact: Be the primary contact for the Bismarck, Mandan areas. MPO/TAC representative for the District. Project management of DOT projects within the Bismarck/Mandan cities as well as project oversight of LPA projects. Supervise the signing, traffic signals and street lighting within the cities on state roadways. Work with landowners, utility companies, developers, within the Bismarck Mandan area on permits. May include driveway permits, utility permits, agreements to work in right of way, or others. Review the permitted work in the field for compliance and close out when completed. Maintain district files and records. Conduct Transit facility inspections.Construction Project Reviews: Conduct field and documentation reviews of State and County projects run by DOT, consultant, or county staff. In the field review items such as traffic control, construction methods, sampling and testing, and compliance with plans and specs. Records reviews include materials certifications, PQEs, sampling and testing frequency, pay estimates, labor compliance, and other items. Conduct in depth CERT reviews of at least 10% of the district projects per year. Review staffing, SWPPP and environmental permits, CARS documentation and consultant estimates.Construction Design and Finals: Review project finals, review PSE plans, and complete district designs and environmental documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering,Four years of professional-level engineering work experience,Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of ND.Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.

Experience with the Construction Automated Records Systems (CARS) is a plus, as well as knowledge of engineering processes, construction administration, and AASHTO standards. In this role, your main duties will include:In this role, you will develop and maintain a Qualified Products List (QPL) and create the associated specifications needed to operate the QPL process. You will evaluate new products submitted to the NDDOT to ensure they meet the required standards. Additionally, you will assist in the development of a Materials Management System (MMS), writing specifications and procedures for its implementation. You will also support training efforts and develop manuals to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the MMS. Your work will play a key role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of materials management within the NDDOT.In this role, you will work with the NDDOT Research, Development, and Technology program to improve processes and enhance transportation systems. You will coordinate with other NDDOT Divisions and university partners to initiate new research projects focused on transportation improvements. Your work will involve conducting research and analyzing construction methods, materials, and technologies to find better solutions. You will evaluate internal research projects, report your findings, and help develop new research projects to address ongoing challenges in transportation.
