Subsurface Geologist

Correlation of subsurface geologic units in the North Dakota portion of the Williston Basin using wireline logs, oil well cuttings, and cores. Oversee the deep well geothermal and subsurface mineral regulatory programs. Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent the Geological Survey to the public, industry, and other agencies. Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in geology, preference given for applied subsurface geology experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A broad background in subsurface geology, emphasis on sedimentary geology and stratigraphy.Experience describing and interpreting sedimentary rock core.Experience with wireline log interpretation.Ability to conduct studies and to prepare geologic maps.Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.Individual should be self-motivated.Knowledge of PETRA or related subsurface database and mapping software is desired.Computer experience with working knowledge of MS Office applications (Access, Excel, Word, Outlook).Applicant must have a valid driver's license.
